This writing mock contains two Summarize Written Text tasks and one essay. For each summary, express the passage’s main idea in one sentence of 5–75 words. For the essay, develop a response of 200–300 words. The practice mock uses a shared 40-minute timer.
A useful writing routine
Read the prompt carefully and identify what it asks you to explain. For a summary, connect the main claim with its most important supporting point. For an essay, state a clear position, support it with a relevant example and check that the conclusion follows your argument.
Example summary exercise

One possible summary
Extending a campus library’s evening hours increased use of its quiet desks without substantially changing borrowing, suggesting that extra study space was the main benefit.
